Our Work in the UK

Wantok Support seeks to provide support to Papua New Guinean citizens and the wider community, residing in the UK who may be facing hardship. Whatever their particular situation, it is our aim to provide individuals/families with the basic necessities that will alleviate stress or suffering.

There are a variety of support services the charity can offer. These range from giving advice, information, signposting and financial support. In the words of Leo Buscaglia, “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

For financial assistance, the amount of grant given depends on individual circumstances, but would typically range from £150 – £250 maximum. The Trustees’ of Wantok Support will endeavour to make a decision within 5 working days of receiving the application form and supporting documentation.

Any grant awarded will NOT be paid directly to the applicant but to one of the referees or referring agencies, for example social workers, Citizens Advice Bureau advisors, health professionals etc. This may be paid in weekly or monthly instalments.
