Support Services

Wantok Support seeks to provide the following services.

Basic Necessities

The basic necessities that will be provided are: food (e.g. tea / coffee, milk, sugar, eggs, bread etc); adult and children’s clothing including baby items; personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste; bed linen (sheets, pillow cases, duvets); household furniture e.g. table, chairs or beds; kitchen equipment (e.g. cups, saucepans, plates, kettle, cutlery).

Please note that this is NOT a definitive or exhaustive list and that alcohol or cigarettes will NOT be provided.

Recipients should ask a referee or referring agency to complete the grant application form on their behalf.

Larger Household Furniture

This includes single / double beds; electrical appliances (washing machines, fridge / freezer, televisions).

Signposting , Providing Advice or Counselling

The High Commissioner for Papua New Guinea and the Chairperson will be the initial contacts for signposting. They will then assess the situation and if appropriate, delegate responsibility to other Trustees, depending on their experience and knowledge. This may mean referring them to organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, council offices, job centres, housing (refuge centres), benefits office,   doctors, dentists, domestic abuse helplines, women’s aid and other appropriate helplines etc.

Travel Expenses

This will be at the discretion of the trustees.

Acting as a Language Interpreter

Trustees would be able to assist with language barriers at airports or other government offices.

Again, this is NOT an exhaustive list and other items, services or facilities may be available if it will make a difference to the life of the individual or family.
